I'm starting early this year on spooky and fun things for Halloween. Some true, some not so true and some downright freaky. I want to kick it off with something I found by accident. I do not promote anything in this blog but only to inform. Keep this in mind, however with this one I couldn't help it. Enjoy!

“The Amityville Horror House” Up for SALE

On May 25th, 2010 I saw on CNN that the house that is famous for the Amityville Horror is now up for sale. Wolf Blitzer was asked if he was interested in buying it and without hesitation a big “NO” came from his mouth, even before the question was fully out of the lady’s mouth. I couldn’t help but chuckle and agree because that was my own reaction, too.

Professor Hans Holzer, Phd., did a television interview on the Amityville case that he investigated while the haunting of the Lutz family was still in progress. The interview was much later, rather recently before his death, in the timeline of events. The interview itself is in the first posts in this blog within the “Halloween Special” posts. I found it quite intriguing that his prediction in that interview did come true. In fact, I have been waiting to hear this news also just as he was waiting. It was a “when” issue to Professor Holzer, not an “if" it happens” kind of thing. He stated he would not be surprised to hear of spontaneous fires and was watching the papers for the sale of the home and property. I’m not sure about the fires occurring as his prediction but the for sale part is indeed true. He had watched the newspapers in NY to see this ad since his initial learning of new owners.

The article states the address of the home had been changed but according to other sources the telling eye-like windows were also replaced to make the home less noticeable to “fans and fanatics”.

Six members of the DeFeo family were shot and killed in the house in 1974.

The house made famous by the 1970s Amityville Horror film has gone on sale in Long Island, New York, with a price tag of $1.15m (£800,000).

The five-bedroom house at 108 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, gained notoriety through the film based on the story of the Lutz family, who moved in in 1975.

The Lutzes say they soon discovered that the house was haunted.

Several months earlier, six members of another family had been shot and killed as they slept in the house.
The family's eldest son, Ronald DeFeo Jr, was convicted of the 1974 murders.

A book and a series of films based on the events described by the Lutzes followed.

The high asking price of the house - a Dutch Colonial style home overlooking a canal - is based on renovation work, reports say.

It has had several owners since the 1970s. The address has been changed from the original 112 Ocean Avenue in a effort to keep onlookers away.

Joshua P Warren – Bloody Ectoplasm?

Did bloody ecto really show up here in this still shot and video from the Myrtles Plantation while Joshua P Warren was investigating? This is definitely not the first story I’ve heard (or witnessed myself) of this phenomena occurring. I’m not sure what is showing up here since it was not clear what else the infrared could have picked up that the naked eye couldn’t see on that floor but it is not dismissed by me either. In my mind this is one I cannot explain one way or the other but find it very interesting indeed that this “bloody ecto” shot happened in the bedroom of General David Bradford.

Many ghostly encounters of General Bradford are reported at the Myrtles Plantation and I, myself, have seen evidence of this man’s presence from both video and photos that friends have shown me of their own investigations at this very haunted plantation in Louisiana. He is not the only well known presence in and on the plantation. LA spirits’ website has a submitted photo taken on the plantation grounds that show the notorious lady and two kids by the statue and tree that others have seen many times in the past. That’s one of my personal favorite photos taken at the plantation of modern day ghostly photos. This below could very well be in that category if no other explanation is found for this showing up. Children's 'ghosts' haunt Picton cemetery

DOES this photograph show the figures of two children, born nearly a century apart, walking in their own paranormal playground?

The family who took this picture while on a ghost tour in Picton, NSW, swear there were no children inside the St Mark's Cemetery.

Which begs the question: who, or what, is out there?

Local legend has it that the two children are David Shaw and Blanche Moon, who died 60 years apart.

Blanche was crushed to death in 1886 when a pile of sleepers that she and a number of children were playing on slipped.

David was the son of a minister who died in 1946 from polio.

The woman behind the lens of this mysterious photo, Renee English, said she was "a sceptic" before undertaking the ghost tour on January 9.

"When we were standing at the bank looking into the Cemetery I was just snapping away and making jokes about the whole thing and asking when the ghosts were going to come out," the Port Macquarie resident said.

"I know that when I took that photo there was no-one else in the cemetery. The only people we saw were a family of four about 10 minutes later but those kids were clinging to their parents the whole time.

"When we uploaded our photos and saw the children all the hairs on my arm stood up and I just went cold all over.

"That night I couldn't sleep at all and I'm never watching a scary movie again.

"I wasn't a believer in ghosts, but now I'm intrigued."

Local historian Liz Vincent conducted ghost tours in Picton, claimed to be Australia's most haunted town, until her death last year. Since then, her husband John and daughter Jenny Davies have taken up the mantle.

"Picton's just so haunted," Ms Davies said. "We find people always love to see their photos afterwards because most of these things aren't visible to the naked eye."

One of the tour's most popular figures is Emily, a lady who was hit and killed by a train in 1916 while taking a shortcut through the Redbank Range Tunnel, also known as the Mushroom Tunnel, to visit her brother.

Emily Bollard resided near the railway line and was a single woman aged in her 50s. Before taking her shortcut, she didn't check the timetable and was hit in the tunnel by a train coming from Thirlmere. She died instantly.

"She likes to move among the participants and loves to touch their hair and body, particularly their arms and legs," Ms Davies said.

"Those on the tour often say that they've also felt a cold wind blowing through the tunnel."

Modern Psychological Studies and the Paranormal

...A trailer for a series concerning the marriage between the field of modern psychology and the field of paranormal studies. I plan on bi-monthly shows concerning various topics related to the theme mentioned above.

All too often the inclusion of a few letters after one's name creates a false sense of power few seem likely to challenge. I understand and respect a decade of dedicated learning as much as the next but I also respect my right to interpret and ultimately, draw my own conclusion(s) on subject matter, regardless of the amount of money I, or my parents for that matter, have spent on further education...

BlogStars, I feel confident, agree with me....if only on principal.

The issue of psychological ailments often comes up when investigating claims of paranormal activity. Very often, in my own, humble experience, said “conditions” if found to exist, disqualify individuals from further investigation (and serious attention) by many paranormal research teams and investigators.

Granted the above statement does NOT hold true for every team or researcher but it would seem these conditions are used as reasons for the principal's experience(s) and not viewed as respectfully as they should or could be... as symptoms that may make an individual even more susceptible to external (paranormal) activity.

Of course, this is my contention but I am positive I'm not alone in that assertion. Please lend your thoughts, regardless of what they are to this series topic, beginning late December (2009).

Please bare in mind that while I am/may promote ideas skewed to bolster my own opinion(s), I am in no way closed to alternative and opposing views and you will not be attacked in any way, shape or form for voicing them.

I have included German born, Anneleise Michel's true story in this episode, her sad story is testament to the fact that truth is often worse than fiction.

A Topic That Always Grabs My Attention For Good Reason!

Exorcism: we've all heard everything from it's being BS to the greatest things since peanut butter and even stories of death coming from it's practice. I've seen it. I've been involved in it. It's no laughing matter and it's a very dangerous and serious subject to approach. For those of you out there that's screaming, "But you're a Witch!" Yes, that's true, but does that under qualify me? The answer lies in both Faith and Science and Katie Boyd couldn't have said it better in her book "Devils & Demonology In the 21st Centenary". She details the pains of the families, the team of investigators (herself a demonologist and occult specialist and Beckah, a undisputed psychic) and the tools and knowledge of the "trade" to handle such cases with safety and skill. I've never been more impressed in a single book than I am with this one. My purpose for presenting this here is as my the description in this blog says, to educate and inform, and that is just what Katie is doing and doing it well. I strive to give you the best information to arm yourself with in the paranormal field and to be the best you can be. If we pull together we can accomplish much. It's been proven that this is true for anything we, as human beings, undertake.

Katie presents real life situations without the drama and hype that some of the other sources on this particular subject draw upon. It's down to earth and downright informative. Anyone, inside or outside of this field can read it and understand it and get a real picture of both sides of the story, not only from those involved in the case but from the perspectives of religion, faith issues, science, and history. I've been here for a while, longer than I care to recognize, and for a long time I felt like the other people on this subject, shrugging it off with a "Yeah, right," attitude. I was wrong and my life as an investigator has shown me this. I would encourage anyone seeking to further educate themselves in this field of the paranormal to read this book. You may need this knowledge someday. For me, it's a resource book. I hope it serves you just as well.

In my travels to collect stories of vampires, werewolves and forest spirits in Transylvania I interviewed the woman in this picture. She invited us in to her small modest home and her family served us something to eat while she quietly waited for the interview to commence. She then proceeded to tell us that she was on her "death bed" and the stories she would tell us were some of her last.

While I do not know if she is still with us in this world, I wished to honor her kindness and wisdom by making this photo the cover of the DVD packaging (for our film Across the Forest). I like the juxtaposition of the new (the stereo) with the old (the icon). The icon had been in her family for over two hundred years. She was very proud of having preserved it through the ravages of time, poverty and government harassment (Romania suffered under Communism for almost 50 years). No matter how things change there is still the belief in the supernatural in all parts of the world.
